At the EGM last sunday the captains voted for proposal 1 which was to split the league in two with both World 8 Ball and Old EPA rules in action next season. Team captains have to indicate on the Team registration forms which set of rules they wish to play in next season. Match night format for both sets of rules has changed to 12 singles and no doubles. This will be in the form of two sets of six, with substitutes eligible to play in the second set. This match format will allow for drawn games, therefore the scoring structure of matches will change to 2 points for the win and 1 point for the draw. Proposed formats for 2008 season (Posted 03/08/07)
As many of you are well aware the League, over the past four/five seasons, has been going through a slight transformation in order to move forward with the modern world. Although this hasn't been easy, at stages, I feel progress has been made and is still ongoing to achieve the goals set out from the start. Two of these goals were firstly, to affiliate to the County Association, which opens many opportunities for progression and secondly to introduce "World 8 Ball rules" to the League, to bring us competitively in line with other Leagues up & down the country, not only in individual events but team events as well. This, hopefully, will result in the standard of pool, within our league, being raised to the next level and possibly beyond for the members who are interested. I am aware that not everyone is interested and catering for everyone is never going to be an easy task. Amidst all the rumours and speculation over the past few months, I'd like to take this opportunity to map out the timetable for the next couple of months.
At our last Committee meeting we set out two proposals for the format of the 2008 season. These proposals will be put to the team captains at the next Council meeting on Sunday 2nd September, which will be an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM), for the team captains to decide.

The two proposals are as follows:
Proposal 1:
To split the League in two; 1 or 2 Divisions, depending on amount of team entrants, playing everything to "World 8 Ball rules". (World 'A' & 'B' Divs)
This includes Singles & Doubles Competitions.
Also:
1 or 2 Divisions, depending on amount of team entrants, playing everything to "Old EPA rules" - current playing rules. (Old EPA 'A' & 'B' Divs) This includes Singles & Doubles Competitions.

This does mean doubling up Cup, Plate, and Singles & Doubles competitions, but it is practical. Cup & Plate in both sets of rules, to run in tandem on the same nights, as will the Singles & Doubles Competitions.

Proposal 2:
To play all Competitions to "World 8 Ball rules" across all divisions.

Please note: the finer details of match nights to "World 8 Ball rules" will be forthcoming at a later date, with the possibility going to 12 singles games only, no doubles. This is only a possibility and has not yet been decided.

These above two proposals will be in letter form to all captains during August. This will coincide with the distribution of Team Entry forms, at the same EGM, so once the proposals have been voted on, the team captains have time to converse with their players before their return of the Team entry forms and monies at October's Council meeting.

Please feel free to send me (bushman) a private message on the forum on any queries to the above.

Frank Callaghan
Chairman

A week of surprise results in Division A, Rileys West 12 won at Chiswick A, Eleusis Social Club won at Leamington A and Orchard Tavern A beat Leamington B. There were the expected wins of St. Augustine's B and Windmill B.
Only three games in Division B and they saw the expected wins for Cowshed, St. Augustine's Sands and The Prince.

Week 19 Commentary (Posted 12/07/07)
In Division A Rileys West 12 pulled of the result of the season (so far) by beating Leamington A 6 - 3. Another good result was Eleusis Social club beating Orchard Tavern A 7 - 2. Elsewhere in this division there were wins for Chiswick Globetrotters, St. Augustine's B and Windmill B so the positions in the table remain the same.
In Division B neither of the top 2 teams played which enables Chiswick Dynamos and St. Augustine's Tree to gain a couple of points. The only other match saw The Prince win at Laurie Arms.
No change at the top of Division C with wins for both Wilton Arms and Duke of Cornwall. Queen Adelaide had a good win over Brackenbury Arms to go above them in the division. It also allowed Kent House to retake 3rd spot. In the other game in this division Hope & Anchor beat Orchard Tavern B 6 - 3.

In Division B wins for the top 2 teams Cowshed & St. Augustine's Sands saw them open a slight gap over Chiswick Dynamos (playing in the cup) & St. Augustine's Tree who went down 6 - 3 at home to Chiswick Voyagers. The Prince was the only other team in this div to win.
In Division C Brackenbury Arms had a good win against leaders Wilton and Queen Adelaide had an equally good win against 2nd placed Duke of Cornwall, other winners were Orchard Tavern B, O'Donoghue's B and Hope & Anchor.

The other winning teams were Chiswick Dynamos (Division B) and Eleusis Social Club, St. Augustine's B, White Horse B and Rileys West 12 (all Division A).

Only one match in Division B saw Tournament beat Chiswick Voyagers 3 - 6 but no changes in position in the table.

Wins for Leamington A, Chiswick Globetrotters and St. Augustine's B has seen the 3 of them open up a gap at the top of Division A. Wins for Leamington B, Chiswick A and Windmill B saw them rise in the league.
In Division B wins for the top 3 teams St. Augustine's Sands, Cowshed and Chiswick Dynamos has seen them open up a slight gap. Wins for Tournament and Norman Arms has seen them each go up one place while a good win for Laurie Arms only saw them maintain there position.
The only movement in Division C saw West London Deaf climb 2 places. Elsewhere in the division there were wins for Brackenbury Arms, Duke of Cornwall, Queen Adelaide and a 9 - 0 for Kent House Social Club.
Week 12 Commentary (Posted 29/04/07)
As it was 'turn round' (which means teams played the same team as last week but at the different club) there were very few surprises.
In Division A O'Donoghue's A beat Eleusis Social Club 9 - 0, otherwise all the teams that won last week won this. Namely Chiswick Globetrotters, Leamington A, Orchard Tavern A, St. Augustine's B and Leamington B.
In Division B the same teams won again, St. Augustine's Sands (5 - 4 over Chiswick Voyagers), Laurie Arms, Chiswick Dynamos, Tournament and St Augustine's Tree.

The league has reached the halfway point and in Division A there were wins for the top 5 teams, Chiswick Globetrotters, Leamington A, St. Augustine's B, Orchard Tavern A and Leamington B, which means little movement in position. The main movement was by Eleusis Social Club who climbed up 3 places thanks to a win over O'Donoghue's A.
A similar position in Division B with the top 4 teams all winning; St. Augustine's Sands, Cowshed, Chiswick Dynamos and St. Augustine's Tree. Again the main movement was by a lower team Tournament who have gone up 3 places thanks to beating Shamrock Club. There was also a good win for Laurie Arms (over Connolly's).
